I have a sugar bush that I can't utilize at the moment (I need to focus my resources on my bees and mushrooms at the moment).  Does anyone have experience with buying or selling straight maple sap, or renting a sugar bush?

Thanks!

Depending upon where the sugarbush is, and it's size, you may readily find a maple producer willing to rent. Rates can be anywhere from .75 to 1.25 per tap or a flat rent fee. If you enter into a 5 yr signed agreement you may qualify for an ag assessment on the property. Try posting on MapleTrader.com.

Shelley, I have developed an Excel files that allows users to determine sap pricing and to keep track of payments throughout the sugaring season. It is posted on the Cornell Maple Program website and attached to this reply. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks to you both - I appreciate the links.

We see in the neighborhood of $1.00 per tap in our area as well (Champlain Valley/Green Mountain foothills in Vermont)

Thanks!

Shelley,

Will you let folks drive in/near the trees to retrieve sap - trucks tractor 4 wheeler, etc?  That adjusts the price.  Also just buckets or tubing runs affects it too.  Usually producers want a long term lease to invest in tubing runs...
