Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - November 9, 2018 - New Load of Solar Energy Arrives!

A new mountain of great timber was donated and delivered to the landing today by the Wagner Companies.  We're extremely grateful to our partners at Wagner Hardwoods for their strong and continuing support.  David needed a wide angle lens to capture all of the wood!  There's good work to do on this mountain of logs and Eileen is in the process of scheduling upcoming C4C gatherings.…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - October 13, 2018 - Firewood Finds New Homes!

I'm happy to report that 2018's hard work is paying off for Camp Onseyawa (https://www.onseyawa.org/), The Rotary and NYFOA.  The team from the Walworth-Ontario Rotary came to work on Saturday October 13 and picked up another six face cords for their patrons in and near Wayne County.  I asked Jonathan Wordingham, the team's leader, to take some pics:…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - August 4, 2018 - The Landing is a Popular Place!

A dramatic turn of events caused the Chainsaws for Charity work area to become the HOT place to be last Saturday.  Attendance looked like it might be on the lite side, but changing schedules created plenty of activity.  Thanks to Dave Keebler, Dana, and Greg, we have excellent photos to tell the story.  Here's a nice shot of Dave (in yellow) and David (in blue).  It was Dave's first time out with C4C and we really enjoyed his company!  Dave's a hard worker and has a great sense of humor. …

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - June 13, 27, 2018 - July 11, 2018 - Wednesday Events

Just a quick update on the midweek C4C sessions at David and Celia's and a reminder about future events.  With the summer heat at the firewood landing, we've been solving more of society's problems through jabberjaw-ing and stacking less firewood!  But that really is the fun of C4C....raise some money for a good cause and have some laughs in the process.

Greg, Bill, David, Keith, Jim, others, and I have been sharing donuts and sawdust on the second and fourth Wednesdays of…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - June 9, 2018 - Summer Is Here!

Another great day at the C4C landing!  Lots of action, lots of wood chips, and thanks to Eileen, lots of donuts!  Gary worked with Kathy at the splitter and also took a bunch of great pictures for us.  Here is a sequence of pics of Kathy, which demonstrates the emotions of operating a fine logsplitter.

Fierce Determination…

Just a quick post to show some pics from last Wednesday and as a reminder to mark your calendar for the next bimonthly event on June 9 at David and Celia's place just outside of Avon, NY.  More on that below.....

Here's Jim whittling logs down to size:

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - May 9, 2018 - New Gear at the Landing!

The NYFOA C4C Team operates like a well-oiled machine and it just acquired a new....well-oiled machine!  With special thanks to Runnings - Brockport and John Schumacher, C4C purchased a brand new log splitter complete with Kohler engine.  Runnings gave a big discount and had its team assemble and prepare the splitter for C4C's service.

NYFOA's Greg Lessord was key to this acquisition and mentions, "It's a Black Diamond 25-ton vertical and horizontal splitter on a tow-behind…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - April 7, 2018 - Spring Ahead!

Dean:  "David, how many logs are left on the landing?"  David:  "Only a few.  I think there are 4 or 5 face cords.  An easy day."

Eleven face cords later, and the team is still ready for more!

When our partners at Wagner Hardwoods deliver logs, they do it very carefully and stack the pile well off the ground on "stringer" logs so that there is plenty of room for air to flow.  In addition, having the logs off the ground keeps them clean and dry and makes it easy…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - February 10, 2018 - Rotary of Walworth-Ontario Comes to Work!

Winter continues in full force and the need for firewood is relentless.  Our partners at the Rotary of Walworth-Ontario continue to raise funds for Camp Onseyawa (https://www.onseyawa.org/) through the sale of C4C firewood.  Camp Onseyawa is a special place for children with special needs and our region's Rotarians make it all happen.

While I was sitting by the fire on January 26 and 27, the C4C team worked hard on the fine, seasoned ash…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - January 10, 2018 - Flash Mob!

We're short?  How can that be?  We were way ahead of schedule for this year!

With the recent cold snap, the need for firewood is relentless.  The Rotary of Walworth-Ontario needed an additional eight facecords and the Canandaigua Rotary needed two more, all to help Camp Onseyawa.   But.... we only had six stacked and ready to go.  So, a Flash Mob was called for High Noon on January 10 to make more heat!  Fortunately, thanks to Wagner Hardwoods, we have material that is ready…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - December 3, 2017 - Fun in the Sun!

A Perfect Day!  Sunshine, good friends, the aroma of two-cycle oil and the dulcet tones of a growling chainsaw.  It just doesn't get any better than that!  That's Jim on the saw, piling up the rounds and chips.

We just received word from Jonathan Wordingham of the Ontario-Walworth…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - October 7, 2017 - The BIG Haul!

Two teams of Rotarians showed up for work today to transport and deliver 24 face cords of the finest C4C firewood.  This firewood was pre-sold earlier in the year by The Rotary, with all of the purchase price going to support Camp Onseyawa, a camp for children with special needs.  So far, C4C and The Rotary have donated approximately $2,500 to Camp Onseyawa (https://www.onseyawa.org/).  In addition, please recall that C4C has already…

Another perfect day in Western NY and the C4C Team completed the first log load on NOV 6.  Thanks again to Tom Gerow and Wagner Hardwoods for their kind donation of logs; they are really a great company.  Check out the Team below after the day was done...they look well fed and well exercised!

That's Tony Ross sitting on the skid and Dale Schaefer way up on the pile.  Chris Howard is on the left, then Greg and Kathy Lessord, Dana Allison and David…

Chainsaws for Charity (C4C) - October 23, 2016 - Heating Season is Upon Us

The big log load donated by Wagner Hardwoods continues to decrease in size while the firewood stacks grow and grow.  After one more cutting session, all of the logs will have transmigrated completely into about 35 face cords of well-seasoned firewood.  Here's a picture of the NYFOA C4C Team from yesterday; we had ten participants:…
