Event Description

Do you know where to find up-to-date maps of invasive species sweeping across New York State? Have you seen a new infestation but don’t know where to report it? If you’re looking to join the statewide group of students, teachers, public and private institutions responding to and reporting new threats, join Cornell Cooperative Extension’s iMapInvasives mapping workshop on October 18th

Find and map invasive species and become a member of the iMapInvasives network, an invasive species reporting and mapping service provided by the Nature Conservancy. CCE Onondaga will train users to use the online iMapInvasives program to report and map invasive species. Citizen observers enter invasive species findings to an online map, which are then confirmed by scientists across the state. The publicly available maps serve as an important tool for land managers, conservation agencies, and municipalities to support management, awareness and rapid response to prevent the spread of aquatic and terrestrial invasive animals, plants and insect species. CCE will teach anyone with basic computer skills how to use the program and begin reporting invasive species as Citizen Scientists.

Please bring your own laptop, iphone, and/or GPS device to the workshop if possible. We will have several available for use.

Funding for this workshop is provided by the City of Syracuse Department of Water.

Please RSVP by calling 315-424-9485 ext 232 or by e-mail at sm674@cornell.edu.
