SUMMARY:iMapInvasive Mapping and Identification Workshop, Free
DESCRIPTION:Do you know where to find up-to-date maps of invasive spec
ies sweeping across New York State? Have you seen a new infestation bu
t don’t know where to report it? If you’re looking to join the sta
tewide group of students, teachers, public and private institutions re
sponding to and reporting new threats, join Cornell Cooperative Extens
ion’s iMapInvasives mapping workshop on October 18th. \nFind and ma
p invasive species and become a member of the iMapInvasives network, a
n invasive species reporting and mapping service provided by the Natur
e Conservancy. CCE Onondaga will train users to use the online iMapInv
asives program to report and map invasive species. Citizen observers e
nter invasive species findings to an online map, which are then confir
med by scientists across the state. The publicly available maps serve
as an important tool for land managers, conservation agencies, and mun
icipalities to support management, awareness and rapid response to pre
vent the spread of aquatic and terrestrial invasive animals, plants an
d insect species. CCE will teach anyone with basic computer skills how
to use the program and begin reporting invasive species as Citizen Sc
ientists. \nPlease bring your own laptop, iphone, and/or GPS device t
o the workshop if possible. We will have several available for use.\nF
unding for this workshop is provided by the City of Syracuse Departmen
 t of Water.\nPlease RSVP by calling 315-424-9485 ext 232 or by e-mail
at sm674@cornell.edu.\n\nFor more information visit https://cornellfor
