DEC’s Public Engagement Pilot Project (for deer management)

  The NYS DEC is hosting a webinar on Deer Management. You may participate online or attend the season at one of the listed locations.

We've heard from deer hunters that they don't see the deer when they are out hunting, part of the problem this year is that it was warm and the deer went nocturnal along with the full moon. Deer tend not to move in warm weather during the day after gun season starts. We here from a few citizens that they still expect to see more deer while homeowners, farmers and fores lowners are noticing a decline in habitat diversity caused by browsing deer along with climate change. 
We certainly need better information on how many and where the deer are long with the deer habits. Last year Trumanburg held a special hunt in the village and the killed about 75 deer. The nunters and researchers thought they did a good job. Soon after the researchers flew over at night using infrared cameras and discoverd there were another 100+ deer that the hunters and residents hadn't noticed!
