An overstocked sapling stand after brush sawing to release the hardwood saplings with the best form and vigor

    Looks good. I have similar conditions on parts of my property. Can you write an update about the response?  Where I've done similar treatment, the trees I left are vigorous and looking great, but any new growth from cut stumps gets mowed down by deer.  They are even browsing on beech, but still beech is the only regen in these areas that has been able to grow above browse height since I started sapling thinning in 2015.

    As of September 2023 the regeneration is predominantly sugar maple with quite a bit of red oak, and some striped maple. In a few years I will at minimum release the best young sugar maples or red oaks in the spots that need replacement trees.
