SUMMARY:Farmland Protection: Let's Get Started!
DESCRIPTION:Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County will host
  a workshop on May 5th to help farmers and farm land owners learn abou
 t farmland protection. “Farmland Protection: Let’s Get Started!”
  invites agriculture producers in Onondaga County to think about how p
 rotecting their working farmland could be a component of long term suc
 cession planning.\nThe workshop will cover the basics of land conserva
 tion as well as a review of the Onondaga County Ag Farmland Protection
  Board’s pre-application for the New York State Agriculture and Mark
 ets Farmland Protection Implementation Grant Program (FPIG)\nThe works
 hop will review the Onondaga County Farmland Protection Board’s purc
 hase of development rights pre-application, which is designed to scree
 n farms that are interested in applying for the New York State Agricul
 ture and Markets FPIG.  Although it is not known whether the State wi
 ll solicit applications to FPIG this year, producers may be prepared f
 or the next round by preparing the county pre-application. All countie
 s in New York State are allowed to submit four project applications to
  FPIG when the State is accepting new applications. Onondaga County ch
 ooses its four applicants from the pool of pre-applications.\nThe even
 t is on May 5 at the New York State Fairgrounds in the Wegman’s Demo
 nstration Kitchen, Arts and Home Building. Registration begins at 9:30
  a.m. and the program runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre- registration is
  required for a lunch count. The cost is $15 per person and $25 per fa
